About the Role
As a Patient Care Assistant, you will work under the direction and supervision of Registered Nurses, Midwives and Enrolled Nurses, supporting safe, compassionate and efficient patient care.
You will play a vital role in patient comfort, transport, safety, and ward support while contributing to smooth admission, transfer and discharge processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under RN/Midwife/EN supervision
- Assist with patient transport, mobility and manual handling
- Respond promptly to patient call bells and requests
- Support patient admission, transfer and discharge processes
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Assist with care of deceased patients as directed
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of clinical areas and nursing stations
- Restock supplies and linen as required
- Liaise with nursing staff regarding patient meals and dietary needs
- Observe, report and document patient wellbeing concerns
- Follow emergency procedures and directions
- Report incidents, hazards and injuries
- Adhere to workplace health and safety (WHS) policies
- Participate in OHS training and consultative arrangements
Essential Requirements
To be successful, you will have:
- Certificate III in Health Service Assistant (Client/Patient Services) or
- Currently studying a health-related tertiary qualification
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks
- Commitment to patient-centred care
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
