Disability Support Worker – SIL – Part-Time – Mooroolbark VIC

Melba Support Services is seeking a compassionate and motivated Disability Support Worker to join its Supported Independent Living (SIL) team in Mooroolbark, Yarra Valley & High Country VIC. This part-time opportunity offers meaningful work supporting people with disability to live independent, fulfilling lives of their choice, within a values-driven, human-rights focused organisation.

With a salary range of $66,000 – $69,000 per annum (pro rata) and flexible shift options including weekends and active nights, this Disability Support Worker role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about inclusion, dignity, and person-centred support.

About the Disability Support Worker (SIL) Role

As a Disability Support Worker in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) setting, you will work closely with individuals to understand their unique goals, preferences, and communication needs. Your role will be directed by the person supported, ensuring their rights, autonomy, and choices are always respected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with individuals to understand and support their personal goals and preferences
  • Deliver supports in line with Person Centred Active Support principles
  • Assist with daily living activities including personal care, hygiene, morning and evening routines
  • Support household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and laundry
  • Facilitate participation in social, recreational, work, and educational activities
  • Support individuals with complex communication needs, including alternative communication systems
  • Administer medication and provide health-related supports (within scope and training)
  • Advocate for personal choice, independence, and community inclusion
  • Maintain accurate, legible records and report concerns appropriately
  • Collaborate with families, natural supports, and external service providers when required
  • Actively participate in training, supervision, team meetings, and reflective practice

Essential and Desirable Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Disability (desirable but not mandatory)
  • Experience or willingness to learn personal care support across all areas of daily life
  • Strong commitment to inclusion and community participation
  • Ability to build relationships with individuals, families, and community members
  • Excellent communication, language, and literacy skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Strong sense of accountability and responsibility
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Experience or willingness to work with people with complex support and communication needs
  • Emotional resilience and ability to adapt to challenges

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants for this Disability Support Worker position must have or be willing to obtain:

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working With Children Check
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to work flexible shifts (including weekends and active nights)
  • Compliance with OHS&W policies, procedures, and legislation
  • Successful completion of pre-employment checks and mandatory training
